I have so many projects in the works, but I like to spend at least a year developing them (plotlines, characters and so on), so I can't tell you exactly when these will be more solid ventures, but for now, I hope you like the sound of them...
The Elysiad (novel)
-The young adults of Elyse Bay have just finished school for the summer, and one of them in particular has a lot of plans for the holidays...
Echo likes Narcissus. Narcissus is a egotistical male model. Echo will do anything to get to him, even bargain with tricksters and self-proglaimed gods and death spirits.
Her two best friends, Icarus and Mallory, want to help her through her quest, but once Narcissus' zealous publicity manager, Dion, finds out about the plot, things turn rather upside down...
(The Elysiad is a modern retelling of several Greek myths, with the story of Echo and Narcissus at its centre. It's a black comedy, and it will most likely be the project I work on next.)
Penya Dunias Kwa Weusi: Through Realms of Darkness (childrens novel - for older readers)
-When a young cheetah named Azanti is born bearing the symbolic marks of Shatani, the goddess of fury, she is sent into captivity with a group of fearsome lions. There, she meets a friend in Exile, the cruelly-named panther, and the pair of them plan a way to overthrow their captors and escape.
However, they soon discover that escaping is just the start of their problems, when they meet Mwogo, the albino Chontri-cat, and the wicked Crocodile King.
(This is a story that I've had, albeit tentatively, around for many years, inspired by African folklore.
It will be fully illustrated.)
When Twinkle Lost His Shine (childrens picture book)
-Twinkle wakes up one morning to discover his shine has gone.
Lonesome and sad, he disappears into the unknown to get it back, discovering a little more than he bargained for along the way.
(Basically, a "team book" featuring almost all of my characters. Twinkle, from Indigo Sky, Marcus, from Rose Petal Tea, and others such as Azanti, Horse and Green all feature.
My first attempt at a young childrens book, 'WTLHS' is a story about dealing with life's ups & downs.)
FERAL (poetry anthology/graphic novel)
-One day, a mysterious creature known as 'Feral' appears in the village, and although he seems to pose no immediate threat, the villagers regard him with fear and suspicion.
(I wrote the 'Feral' poems for my final project in a Mythology course. They're inspired by Ted Hughes' wonderful 'Crow' poetry and also Indian philosophy/myths & folklore.)
The Angel City Travelling Circus of Freaks and Wonders (novel)
-A strange being known as a hyppocus lurks beneath the waves at the village beach. Half-man, half-seahorse, Twinkle is soon discovered by a travelling circus and he is pulled from his watery home into a world of bright lights, greasepaint and gilded cages.
Finding friends and solace in his fellow performers - Isabella the Bearded Lady, Poorvi the Naga and Frederick the Lion-Boy - Twinkle soon learns that there is more to circus life than he first anticipated, and strange, supernatural secrets hide in the hall of mirrors and the big top itself.
(I created "hyppocus" Twinkle as an alternative to his regular form in Indigo Sky, to give myself a break from such a time-consuming project. I never thought I would include him in a story, but when I began developing Isabella, I couldn't refuse.
This story with the long-winded title is inspired very much by tales of Victorian freakshows, my friend Bird (who taught me a lot about hypertrichosis!), Dame Darcy's comic 'Meat Cake' and The Dresden Dolls, and needs a lot more developing before I work on it further!)
Various untitled anthologies (poetry & short story)
-I've decided to unleash my University work upon the world, as I've written more than I could ever have imagined on the course!
I have no immediate plans or titles for my anthologies as of yet, but I do want to compile them, at some point...
