ART-RELATED

1) Will you make something for me?
-Yes, as a commission, I will gladly make some art for you. I consider my prices to be fair, and a list of them, plus example images, can be found here.
I used to take requests, but now it's very, very rare that I do. If I'm taking requests, I'll announce it on my blog, a specific gallery, etc. As for art trades, yes, occasionally, but usually with close friends only. Sorry!

2) How long does it take you to finish a piece?
-Sorry for the dull answer :) but it really does depend on the piece!
The longest I ever spent on artwork was around four to five hours, but I may have been watching telly while doing it, as well.

3) What is your favourite medium?
-Watercolours! Traditional mediums all round, actually. I used to love doing digital work back in the day, but now I find it quite a hassle, and enjoy using traditional impliments a lot more!

4) Have you had any art lessons?
-Aside from compulsory art lessons in high school (pre-GCSE stage), then no. Everything I do is self-taught. At school, drawing cartoons & self-expression were almost frowned upon and we just got told how to do the basics like shading or sculpting rocks & mushrooms (hehe - don't ask!), so I always hated those restricted lessons.

5) When did you start drawing?
-At age 11, in 1997, thanks to a Sonic the Hedgehog & cartoon obsession!
The first place I posted my work online was at Lionking.org, way back in 1999, and I've been hooked as an 'online artist' ever since!

6) Can I use your art for my website/Myspace/YouTube video, etc?
-If you give me full credit and do not edit the pieces, then yes. Otherwise, I'm not keen. I don't like my art being 'stolen' and passed off as somebody else's work, understandably.
If you're a little confused as to whether you "should" use something of mine, please don't hesitate to get in touch! I am not one of these artists who metaphorically bites off peoples' heads for 'theft'. Just ask. :)

7) Can I draw your character?
-Yes! I adore fan art, and keep every piece I've ever been given here at my Flickr treasure box :3 Some will go on my guest gallery here, too, space permitting.

8) What inspires you to draw?
-Everything and anything.
Seriously, I love drawing, and I am a serial scribbler. If I'm ever left with time to kill and a piece of paper + pen, well. :)
My main inspirations tend to be general: life, music, movies, books, nature, people, places... my written work inspires art too, and vice-versa.

9) Any tips for other artists?
-When you feel the inspiration, then DO SOMETHING WITH IT.
Art block can be a really frustrating thing, and as art is such an expressive and hopefully fun medium, I believe it should be exerted in that way. :3
I'm a big believer in spreading inspiration + ideas around! I'd also say, on a more biased note, try real media. Don't just rely on digital means :) You may find it very rewarding and enjoyable.

10) Do you attend any conventions?
-Generally, no, but that may change in the future. The first convention I ever attended was RBW in London, 2009, and I was there as a visitor rather than a seller. If I do go to any cons in the future, I'll be selling work, and I'll let people know where I'll be on my blogs/art galleries, etc.

  WRITING-RELATED

1) How did you get published?
-Rose Petal Tea, my debut novel, was published by a UK-based print-on-demand company called Authors Online. I discovered them after reading another book they put out, 'Ant Musings' by Keat Babel (sadly not available anymore!). My novel was published in 2005.
Indigo Sky, my second book, was self-published via Lulu.com, due to financial issues. I can recommend both of these services for different reasons to any budding writers. :)

2) Have you taken any writing courses?
-I took a three-year Creative Writing course at John Moores' University, Liverpool, graduating 2010.

3) What inspires you to write?
-Like the similar question in the art section, pretty much everything. If I get an idea, I'll jot it down in a notebook and work on it when it feels right.
My biggest inspiration seems to be music, as a lot of my larger works (novels, graphic novel projects etc) have been based on songs/artists I admire.
Mythology, folklore, the supernatural, etc, also tend to lend a hand in what I write.

4) Do you post writing online?
-Yes, there is some to be found under the 'writing' tab here and occasionally at my blog, but I don't tend to post a lot of it online due to publishing rules, etc.
Also, writing is more of a 'professional'-feeling hobby for me, rather than something I do for fun, like my artwork.

5) What are you currently working on?

-My third novel, Angel City, a tale of circus freaks, revenge and faded showbiz glamour...and a few other, secret, projects on the side.

6) Can you share any tips?
-Writing is somethat that should be personal to the writer, just as any other form of creative hobby. You should try to develop your own style, which will help you feel confident in your work and allow you to explore your ideas more :)
A good way to develop a style is to read a lot. Read a bit of everything. Try something you've never tried before, it may help you gain inspiration for your own work.
Practice. Write whenever you can, if you have the idea and spark there. It's a passion that, again, like with art, should be given the 'air-time' whenever inspiration appears for it - if possible. Carry a notebook around with you.
Write what you know and experiment!

PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS

1) Is Cally your real name?
-Yes, it is, and it isn't short for anything; though 'Anne' is my middle name. :)
I do get asked this a surprising amount.

2) What is "death wore chinchilla"?
-It's two things. My email address, and a line in the song 'Indigo Blue' by Marc Almond.
It always stuck with me, hense being my email!

3) Where does the pseudonym 'Twinklestah' come from?
-It's a melding of my character Twinkle with the word star (a natural pairing, wouldn't you say?) with star mis-spelled on purpose to allude to the comment Scouse (Liverpool) accent ('staaah!').
Twinkle (the character) is not a persona and I've since sort of moved on from him and his world (after Indigo Sky was released), so calling me 'Twinkle' is a tad confusing to me, although I do appreciate why people do it. I'd rather people call me Cally or 'Twinklestah' if they have to use that name - after all, its just my pseudonym.

4) Are you on Myspace/Facebook/Twitter, etc?
-I do not use Myspace. I used to have a profile there, but I never really liked the site so I decided to abandon it. My profile is still up, for archival sake, but I don't use it any more, so please don't be offended if I don't add you or anything there - I simply don't check the site :)
I have an account on Twitter, but I find it very hard to keep up with it due to my busy schedule, so I very rarely add people back on it. Sorry about this, it's nothing personal. I'll add most back, but only really reply and 'check' the site when I have ample free time!
The only social networking site I use fairly actively is Livejournal. Mine is mostly friends only, mostly, but I don't mind others adding me to keep up with my public art, photo & writing posts :) I don't tend to add newcomers back though unless I know them from elsewhere. The same goes for Facebook - I've got a public page there where people can add me and watch me to get updates on my art and other projects. Also, I have a personal account there, but I don't really use it too often. I am quite a private person when it comes to those sites, so please do not be offended if I don't add you back. I tend to only add family and real life friends there - again, it's nothing personal. It's just the internet, after all.

5) Do you reply to comments/emails/etc?
-I don't reply to every comment I get on my artwork because I don't like bombarding people with 'thank yous', nor do I really like getting bombarded with them myself (I don't mind if it's chatter, but generic "Thank you" comments can get a little grating after a while - I hope this doesn't sound ungrateful. Personally, if I comment on something you've done, it's because I like it. I don't expect anything back!).
I will reply to questions, notes, emails and stuff directed at me personally. Private notes via art galleries or emails to my deathworechinchilla address will always be replied to, as will comments made on my blog or questions about specific things relating to the picture/whatever in question.
Again, do not read too much into this! I am not an ignorant person by any means. Those who know me well enough should know that.

6) Why do you have so many blogs?
-I like making websites and projects? :) They're fun, simply put, and I like having seperate homes to keep my projects centered and focused. I'd like to think others find them fun to look at, too!

7) Why are you a member of so many sites?

-Similar reasons. I may not be 100% active on all of them, but I like trying out new things and actually "using" the internet rather than just surfing on it and sitting on Facebook all day! :)

8) Who made the graphics for this site?
-Aside from the rainbow dot divider, all of the graphics on this site were painted in watercolours by me - it was quite a long and painstaking process, but it, hopefully, paid off :)
